Google Announces BuzzFebruary 10, 2010 – 3:40 pm |

Yesterday, Google announced a new feature within Gmail called Google Buzz. Google Buzz is, essentially, a collection of actions on the social web, viewed through the filter of your Gmail contacts. By assuming that your Gmail contacts are the people you are most interested in keeping in touch with, Google Buzz seeks to ensure you don’t miss out on anything your friends are sharing or commenting on.
You can connect YouTube, Flickr and Twitter accounts to Buzz, as well as other Google services like Picasa, Google Reader and your Google chat status. One glaring omission is the inability to link Facebook into Google Buzz. It’s possible that Facebook viewed Buzz as direct competition and decided to exclude itself from this launch.
Here is the official video from Google explaining Buzz.
You have to pay attention, because they only mention it briefly, but with Google Buzz you can also share your location and what you’re doing with a mobile phone. Nearly every tech company is jumping on the location-based bandwagon, and for good reason. You can now add Google to the list of companies making a push to get people to share their location with their network.
People have been calling Google Buzz a new social network, but to me, it’s more of an extension of your current Gmail network. You are not adding new friends or contacts, but sharing more information with the people with whom you are already connected.

I’m interested in trying it. Google is always innovating and I love their Apps so far. They have the best calendar around, which we use for our interactive agency @ Blueliner.
I’ll give it a shot and reply back after I’ve used it a bit.

Saw it yesterday and enabled it. Looks like a Google Interface but with some twitter functionality. BUT twitter can’t be beaten

Nice and interesting, Google goes social with Google Buzz. It’s a big challenge for Google Buzz to be best within the competitors like twitter and facebook. Are people going to using efficiently how they use twitter and facebook? wait and see but I am excited.

Google already is a well known brand but now they enter a ‘new’ market with existing competitors eg Twitter and Facebook. I think we’ll have to wait and see what happens… will they become the new social network or not.
I’m interested in trying it too.

Interesting post on GigaOm today. Google admits to making a lot of mistakes launching Buzz. Most complaints center around privacy concerns, which is no surprise.
