While the Republican National Convention has been going on in Florida, the President too, is making the rounds preparing for the upcoming November Elections. Again, with digital media, the President was able to connect with his base.
Not surprisingly, he turned to his loyal base to garner up support and excitement, at a time when the RNC is dominating the headlines. President Obama became the first President to do a Reddit, AMA. For those of you that don’t know, Reddit is a website comprised of a series of online communities. Ranging from Funny Pics and Atheism to Science and Politics, Reddit’s communities are on the forefront of news and are highly influential.
Reddit is a site comprised purely of user generated content. Content is voted up or down by users, one of the indicators of where it’s placed on the page. The popular, AMA (Ask Me Anything) allows Redditors to ask questions to someone in a unique position or with a unique experience.
Every now and then, we’ll see a celebrity do an AMA. A wonderful opportunity to ask them about the food they like, how many pairs of socks they own, and their favorite actor to not work with – All the questions an interviewer wouldn’t ask them in a professional setting – the anonymity of the Internet allows you to be as much of an ass as you’d like. People of course take full advantage.
President Obama’s Ask Me Anything immediately flooded the website and shut down access for thousands of users. You have the chance the ask the President of the United States absolutely anything. What did he let us in on?
The Afghanistan surge was the hardest decision he had to make of his Presidency. The White House Beer is delicious and will be out soon, and he’s a Jordan fan.
It’s a shame it only last 30 minutes. There were thousands more of great questions his base needs to know. Expect his campaign to continue to use social media to reach out.
