Loading ...It’s the most wonderful time - of the year…
…if you happen to be twelve years old, that is, and counting down the days towards a 10 day vacation filled with loads of time on Disney’s Virtual Magical Kingdom, new toys, and no homework (no, I’m not jealous of my little sister….what would make you think that?)
For the rest of us, the holidays are usually a time of last minute shopping, holiday parties on top of holiday parties on top of (well you get the idea), and Christmas days spent running around like a chicken with its head cut off, squeezing in as many friends, relatives, and picture-perfect moments as possible. For retail stores, there are the crazed shoppers trying to take advantage of that special deal for that special someone, before 6:43 pm, when the train departs. For business service companies, sales slow to a crawl as executives move major decisions off into the new year.
With all the crazy worries, and frazzled moments, it’s easy to lose sight of the real purpose of holidays in any culture….to evaluate the year, picking out the events for which we are most thankful; to reconnect with old friends and associates; to find comfort in faith; and to return to the things we most treasure as the weary world takes a deep breath before plunging into the new year.
